Hike to Mt. Davidson

While Kevin was at work 🙁 Lola and I spent Halloween morning taking a hike up Mt. Davidson. The three of us took a hike up to the top before in May (check out the post at this link) and it had been quite some time since we visited so I thought that sunny Sunday was the perfect opportunity.

There is so much greenery on Mt. Davidson, you’d swear you were in a rainforest and not in the middle of San Francisco! That really is one of the most amazing things about this city–the tons of nature refuges within such a big, bustling city. Here are some nature shots:

Instead of “Where’s Waldo?”, Where’s Lola?

Happy dog!

For your viewing pleasure, a video clip of our hike (if you listen carefully you can hear the wet ground and Lola panting hard in the background!)

Barktoberfest

Halloween 2010 was not as eventful as years past, but it was kind of nice taking it easy at the same time. The two holiday-themed activities we participated in were dressing up Lola in costumes with her buddy Bailey and we also attended Barktoberfest at Kevin’s work Pet Camp.

Bailey the squirrel (minus the hat) and Lola the bumblebee patiently awaiting treats from Carleigh
Lola felt the fool in that squirrel costume, haha
But Carleigh sure liked it for herself! 😉

Barktoberfest is an event that Pet Camp puts on each year for the community. It was nice being able to see where Kevin spends a lot of his days at work. They set up hay bales, had hot dogs, a keg of beer, beer for dogs (meat flavored, of course) and dog pupsicles too (which I thought were for humans at first, glad Kevin told me before I made a fool of myself! haha)

We didn’t have any cute costumes for her so instead we safety-pinned my Oktoberfest chicken hat to her collar so it looked like the chicken was riding on her back. 😉 She made it onto their Pet Camp website blog for the day too–check it out here at this link
She loved jumping on the hay bale stacks
…and chewing on the pumpkin stalks of course (great source of fiber, I’ve been told).
Kevin with one of the dogs of the co-host, Adam, of Mythbusters TV show on the Discovery Channel. Kevin found out their warehouse where they film a lot of their shows is in SF not too far from us, pretty cool!
One of the poodles dressed as Mr. T, he had a mohawk, gold chain, and a shirt that said “I pity da fool”, ha!

Though this year’s Halloween weekend wasn’t super exciting, it really was nice to take it easy and just enjoy time together (which has become a rare treat for us lately). Next year, though, it’s on! 😉

Lola

Here are some fun photos of Lola from the past two months…enjoy!

She’s even got her own camp chair (just kidding!)

She’s like a big ol’ baby

She enjoys running with mom…even gets to wear her own running jacket! 😉

Yeah I know, they’d consider this pet torture in some countries

She gets in the weirdest positions!

Kumbaya!

We invited Carleigh, Scott and Bailey over for a bbq over our new firepit and had a superb time.

Appetizers…yum!

The feast! Maui short ribs and teriyaki tofu (for me of course) with grilled asparagus and brown rice

And what campfire is complete with some songs! Scott is a talented guitar player and we had a great time singing any song that Scott decided to play for us. Don’t think we’ll be going on tour any time soon, but it was definitely a fun evening. We love those three knuckleheads!

7 mile run, beach walk and bowling

On Saturday 9/11 I started my morning off right–with a 7 mile run! The training for my half-marathon was starting to get intense with a weekly long run and this was my longest ever. I looked up another runner’s route on run.com and really enjoyed my run outside of my neighborhood (which can get boring after a while!) and outside of Kezar Stadium where I’d do some of my shorter runs. I had to take a little printout of the map with me to make sure I didn’t get lost. 😉 All I could think during the run was how amazingly beautiful the park was and how incredibly lucky I was to live in this city and to run in a place like this.

The run was extremely successful, so much so that I agreed to go for a couple mile walk with Carleigh and her dog Bailey along the beach in Pacifica! I mapped the route on run.com so check it out here if you’re interested. 🙂

Beautiful!
Carleigh and her adoring fans

The night we got some sandwiches at Phat Philly in the Mission (Cheez Whiz on a philly sandwich? Sure! Waffle-cut fries with a beer cheese sauce? Of course!) and then spent the rest of the evening at Serra Bowl bowling alley.

Proof that I kicked Kevin’s butt! 🙂 Unfortunately we were kicked off the game but you can clearly see that I was in the lead. 🙂

Carleigh wasn’t too impressed with our bowling skills 😉

Kevin’s birthday

Kevin got Sunday 9/5 off of work (just two days before his birthday) so we decided to have a family day to celebrate. We had lunch at Gordo Taqueria in the Outer Richmond (pretty yummy but we’ve had better burritos before). We went to Sutro Baths (I had already been twice but Kevin hadn’t been yet and had heard so much about it) and Lola thoroughly enjoyed her time in the water.

For Kevin’s birthday I bought him an outdoor firepit that we lit up the first night we got it and enjoyed a glass of wine with it. It was pretty windy so it took a true Eagle Scout to get the first started. 🙂 It felt like we were camping and it was a wonderful way to celebrate Kevin’s birthday.

Mt. Diablo

On 7/17 we decided to take a day trip (since it was a rare Saturday that Kevin actually had off!) and meet up with our friends Terri and Scott who were camping in Mt. Diablo State Park. We had never been there before and thought it’d be a great day full of sun (lots and lots of sun actually) and doggie play time for Lola with Madeira and Ihna.

We took a few walks throughout the day–it was blistering hot (I had almost forgotten what it was like to sweat!) so lots of water and shade breaks were in order.

These pups found shade just about everywhere we went...

…even under the cars in the parking lot!

We then took a drive to Rock City to explore the rock formations and caves.

After a day of exploring we spent the rest of the afternoon at their campsite hanging out and…eating yummy bbq 🙂

Proof that Ihna likes Kevin! She’s a pup who’s had a rough life (she was adopted from the streets of Taiwan) and so has a hard time trusting new people.

Madeira out for the night!

Kevin took this shot at sunset, so pretty!

Beautiful, beautiful sunset…one of the prettiest I’ve ever seen. A wonderful way to end a great day with friends.

Carleigh’s bday at Dolores Park

Scott wanted to celebrate Carleigh’s big day with a surprise gathering at Dolores Park on 7/29 so Jessie, Lola and I joined them and had a great few hours enjoying the sunshine and some beer (of course).

Another trip to Long Beach in July!

Two weeks after Rock the Era I was back in the car to make the drive down to LB–but this time with Jessie and Lola to accompany me!

We again left on a Wednesday night and stayed through Sunday–but this time I decided to take Thursday off as a vacation day so that I wasn’t stuck at home working from the computer!

On Thursday my friend Kim came over and brought over some delicious breakfast–oat pancakes with bananas, peanut butter and nutella spread–amazing!

On Friday me and Jess took Lola and Luke to the Long Beach dog park for some afternoon fun.

That night I went out to dinner with Brianne and Brian and it was great catching up and spending some time with them! We went to eat at The Spaghetti Factory in Fullerton and it was oh-so-delicious. We shared a lot of laughs, especially when I told the waiter that it was Brianne’s birthday (even though her bday is in October) in hopes that we’d score some free dessert and then was surprised when he told me that they come around to sing but won’t bring any dessert, haha!

The main reason I went down to LB for a second time in July was to celebrate the marriage of Janeth and Diego, two friends from Redlands. They got married at the Alumni House on campus and their reception was in downtown Redlands in an old brick warehouse type building that was absolutely gorgeous!

Derek’s visit

My brother Derek came up to visit in early July and we took the opportunity to explore the Sutro Baths which is a place that I had been dying to go for a while. The Sutro Baths are the ruins of an old bathhouse right off the beach in SF (check out some great photos of the bathhouse when it was in full swing in the early 1900’s on the web link above). It was an absolutely gorgeous, clear, sunny, warm day and it was the perfect opportunity for the Delmar kids + Lola to go exploring.

Can you spot the four of us??

A view from within the caves.

So Lola, in her typical nerdy ways, rolled in some dog poop (or possibly coyote poop??) and so we had to go down to the beach to wash her off (gross!) So me and Derek had some fun running around with her on the beach.

I absolutely LOVED going to the Sutro Baths and it was especially fun spending it with my two siblings and Lola!

A couple other shots from D’s visit…

On our way to eat…can you tell this was posed?? Haha.
Cheers! Lunch at El Majahual Restaurant in the Mission–great Salvadorean food!

Can’t wait for your next visit Derdo! 🙂
